Sofitel St James, Elegance Personified
May 4, 2018
Embraced in rich history, The Sofitel St James, is set in the heart of London and surrounded by over 150 classic British listed buildings. Approximately four minutes walk from Piccadilly station, The Sofitel can be seen from quite a distance, this is an extremely impressive and rather imposing building, inside and out. Ensconced in beautiful, elegant fairy lights and stunning foliage, we were beyond excited to experience the interior of the hotel.
As we checked in, we were mesmerised by the lobby’s beauty. We were offered a detoxifying drink of cucumber, mint, lime and pineapple, to cleanse our palette, which was a perfect way to begin our wonderful stay, before being ushered up to our room for the evening.
Our Premium Luxury room, was stunning. With a stunning view over Waterloo Place, it featured incredible high ceilings, a huge marble bath with fine gold accessories and beds we can only describe as being as soft and as delicious as marshmallows. The space was well thought out, stylishly decorated and luxurious. Every conceivable extra was included and it made our stay impeccable. The linen and towels were of the highest quality and the bathroom goodies exquisite, we both enjoyed a sumptuous and steamy bath, always essential when you have time away from home. The hotel was quiet and a relaxing place to lay your head.
The Sofitel St. James boasts a lovely selection of rooms to choose from that can suit your needs and budget, ranging from a classic room, all the way to the spacious Royal Suite, which was elegantly designed by French interior designer Christophe Daudre, a crowning glory of this wonderful hotel.
Before heading out to dinner, which we were very close to cancelling and indulging in room service from our cloud like beds, we had a wonder round the hotel to check out what else was on offer during our visit.
Having stayed in Sofitel hotels before in Dubai, I was very aware of how well known they are for the rather splendid spas and I can happily say, The SoSpa in St. James did not disappoint. Known for being one of the best spas in London, the three – storey space emits the most relaxing and tranquil ethos, whilst filling your senses with a beautiful fresh lemon scent. The stylish, bespoke treatment rooms feature thick, plump treatment beds along with your choice of music and scent to ensure complete relaxation for your treatment. The stunning reception area is decorated with an abundance of heavily scented flowers, along with the full range of beauty products used in the treatments, Carita, Cinq Mondes and Marisa Berenson. Next to the spa is the Fitness Centre, and you will get a full body workout as it is home to the full range of Technogym, state of the art equipment in a bright, airy studio.
Having been told by my mum to make sure we have a cup of tea in the Rose Lounge, we made sure we did just that. The Rose Lounge is purely stunning. Fresh roses and live harp music are the backdrop to this cosy restaurant and tea lounge. A pretty space of extravagant comfy chairs in vivid pink and red are extremely inviting and a superb spot to enjoy anything from a cup of tea, a full on Afternoon Tea or even a private dinner party.
The St James Bar, was bustling, full of atmosphere with people sipping various delicious looking cocktails. The bar has an impressive and extensive list of wines, spirits, cocktails and exclusive champagnes in this snug area. While perusing your the drinks menu, I thoroughly suggest you tease your taste buds by trying the Lobster Thermidor Croquettes. Un.be.lieve.able.
After a night of deep slumber we were excited with the thought of what The Balcon Restaurant had on offer for breakfast. The Balcon beams a stylish decor with delightful views of Waterloo Place. The gracious service from the staff was second to none as they kept topping up our glasses and cups full of juice and tea as they saw we were low.
The breakfast buffet flourished with a huge array of pasteries, juices, cereals, fruits and yoghurts. However, as lovely as the white chocolate and lemon muffins were, I was keen for the Avocado and Chorizo Eggs Benedict. The Balcon is an all -day dining restaurant, which is available for private hire and perfect for a romantic dinner or business lunch.
Our stay was short but oh so incredibly sweet and we will certainly be returning.
